Richard I. Silver, MD, JD is an associate in the litigation
department at Herzfeld and Rubin and focuses his practice on professional
liability (including medical malpractice prosecution and defense), product
liability, and all cases involving health care, medicine, science, and
technology.
He attended college at Johns Hopkins University, where he majored in natural
science and graduated with general honors. He was also inducted into the Phi
Beta Kappa honor society.
Dr. Silver attended medical school at The University of Chicago Pritzker
School of Medicine and graduated with general honors. He was also inducted
into Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society.
He then went on to train as a urologic surgeon at the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He further pursued a pediatric
urology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. While a practicing surgeon,
Dr. Silver wrote and published several articles and book chapters. He has
been involved in extensive research concerning a variety of complex medical
issues. His academic achievement includes the publication of 3 legal
articles, 35 peer-reviewed medical articles, and 13 medical book chapters.
Prior to attending law school, Dr. Silver was an attending pediatric
urologist. He was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1999, and
recertified in 2008. During a decade of clinical practice, Dr. Silver was
recognized and honored for his academic and clinical achievements by being
elected by his peers as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a
Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Fellow of the Society of
Pediatric Urology.
Dr. Silver attended the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva
University and graduated with official concentrations in both intellectual
property and constitutional law.
He is admitted to practice law in the state courts of the State of New York,
and the federal courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
