Ningur Akoglu

Ningur Akoglu defends, nationwide, the interests of international and domestic corporations in product-liability, corporate and commercial litigation, and before federal regulatory agencies. His practice embraces all aspects of discovery and motion practice, preparation of company witnesses and outside experts for depositions and trials, and drafting of trial and appellate briefs. He has considerable experience in litigating threshold issues of service of process, personal jurisdiction, venue and forum non conveniens, as well as conflicts-of-law issues. In addition, he advises manufacturers and service providers on risk management and approaches to litigation preparedness, preservation of evidence and electronic-discovery workflows.

His representative achievements include In re Volkswagen of Am., Inc., 545 F.3d 304 (5th Cir. 2008) (en banc) that clarified Supreme Court and Fifth Circuit precedent on venue transfers under 28 U.S.C. § 1404(a) and resulted in issuance of a writ of mandamus against the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas and Cameron v. Volkswagen AG, Case No. 08 CV 005649, in the Circuit Court of Milwaukee County, WI (2010), a three-week product-liability trial that resulted in a unanimous defense verdict.

Mr. Akoglu has been admitted to the bars of New York (2005), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (2007), and the U.S. Supreme Court (2009).

He is a graduate of Tufts University (B.A. 1999 in International Relations and German Literature and M.A. 2001 in German Literature) and Brooklyn Law School (2004), where he was a research assistant to Prof. Anthony J. Sebok and assisted him with research on punitive damages and comparative tort law.

Mr. Akoglu is fluent in written and spoken German and Turkish.
