Miriam Skolnik heads Herzfeld & Rubin’s vaunted appellate team. She joined H&R 22 years ago, already well-versed in appellate practice and adept at supervising attorneys’ work, having previously acted as Supervising Attorney in the New York City Corporation Counsel’s Appellate Bureau. Since then, Miriam has authored hundreds of appellate briefs and related motions on all substantive areas of civil law, and, since assuming leadership of the appellate team from her long-time colleague, David B. Hamm, has supervised production of all of the firm’s appellate briefs, assuring continuation of H&R’s well-earned reputation for excellence in appellate practice. Through her work, and that of her colleagues on the appellate team, H&R has not only successfully battled on behalf of its client in Federal and State appellate arenas, but also, through innovative and challenging theories and arguments, has succeeded in changing and reforming the law. A list of the firm’s appellate victories can be accessed by clicking here.

Miriam’s value to the firm and its clients, however, far transcends her extraordinary appellate capabilities. Like her colleagues on the appellate team, Miriam will frequently lend her considerable skills to the formulation of substantive motions or the preparation of trial memoranda, thereby assuring preservation of key issues which may be addressed on the appeals likely to follow. Beyond that, Miriam is regularly sought out by colleagues and clients alike for her sound, sage and uniquely practical advice on law and legal strategy, both within and without the context of appeals. She frequently acts as the “sounding board” for clients, colleagues and other lawyers; her uncanny ability to discern the winning argument - - and, just as importantly, to reject those which should not be raised, has been of enormous benefit. Miriam’s reputation as a superb appellate practitioner and excellent counsel has earned her the highest ranking from Martindale-Hubbell, the appellation as a Super Lawyer for Appellate Practice, and biographical recognition for more than a decade in Marquis’ Who’s Who in America.

A graduate Magna Cum Laude of Stern College/Yeshiva University, Miriam received her Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School, and is a member of the New York State Bar Association. She is fluent in Spanish.
